Perhaps Daddy Ought to Stop Playing "Catch the Criminal" with Carson...
I was sitting quietly doing some homework the other day and looked up to see my thug of a son apprehending his "Ultraman" at gunpoint!! It was actually a bit disturbing how angry he seemed while he shoved his play gun into the back of Ultraman's head!! Daddy made up a game where he and Carson "handcuff" each other and act like they are catching criminals...maybe we need a break from that game, huh?!
Here's another shot of my thug of a son...poor Ultraman, I really feel sorry for him!!Actually, worse than his gun-wielding play was the day he stood at the top of our staircase, said, "Mommy, WATCH!" and thrust his hands forward and kicked one leg behind him, like he was going to try to fly down the stairs (much like Buzz Lightyear does in "Toy Story")!! I kid you not...my heart skipped a beat and we had a serious talk about how little boys can't fly...EVER!! Needless to say, "Toy Story" -- which he calls "Fly" due to Buzz Lightyear's antics -- has been hidden away for a while!! Boys!!!!!!
Last Saturday night was cousin Alex's birthday party, which he had at the roller rink. Carson went, but he didn't try skating...with those pretzel legs of his, someone would have gotten hurt! A few pics with his cousins...and, unfortunately, Alex isn't in any of these pics!! (Can you tell Mommy didn't go to this party and Daddy was the photographer?)Sunday, on a whim, we went to the car dealership to look into getting a new minivan. Our "Hoopty Van" -- as Meggie affectionately called it -- was slowly falling apart and starting to smell like it was on fire...a bit concerning, for sure! Much to my dismay, we ended up buying a van with a built-in DVD player...I actually wanted a different one without the DVD, but they offered us this decked out version of the Toyota Sienna because they had had it in stock longer and needed to unload it for reasons that I didn't quite understand. But, hey, we got the "Mac Daddy" minivan at the regular minivan price, so who's complaining?! Anyway, Carson is in absolute heaven when he gets to watch a "moobie" in "Carson's van" -- as he is calling it. Take a peek as he cracks up at "Shrek"...
We had to make a rule that the DVD only gets used on long trips...which the trips to most of his appointments end up being, actually. So, no, the eight minute drive to preschool does not warrant DVD time...he's starting to catch on to the concept, but he still asks ENDLESSLY for the movie. Uggghhhh!!
Thursday, we had ANOTHER first with Carson...his first dentist appointment! He hopped right into the chair like an old pro...but, of course, he had to bring Monkey with him for moral support. He really hated the light in his eyes, so the hygienist offered him these sunglasses. He thought he was quite cool in them!
The hygienist asked him to hold "Mr. Thirsty" (aka the suction) and he gladly helped out! (See it, below, in his left hand?) Interestingly, when it was Mommy's turn to get her teeth cleaned, he wanted to help with Mr. Thirsty as well...and nearly shoved that whole tube down my throat in his excitement!! We had a little talk about being gentle before the next try!
The final product...ahhh, how beautiful!!!
He did extremely well at the dentist's office...never cried or hesitated to cooperate. I was hopeful he would do well...we had been practicing opening our mouths really wide like a lion...but was not expecting him to be as comfortable as he was. This kid NEVER ceases to amaze me!!
Preschool has gone extremely well these last two weeks since I started back to work. Last Friday when I dropped Carson off, the kids dropped what they were doing, started yelling "Carson's here!," and mobbed Carson with hugs before he could get his coat off!! (That was a first!) According to his daily report from Miss Tracy yesterday, "...the kids just love him." Last night, when Daddy picked him up, Carson started crying because he was having too much fun and didn't want to go home! (Sure, the crying thing was annoying, but I'm SO glad he's enjoying preschool and feels comfortable there!)
We are still waiting to hear if Carson got placed on a soccer team...hoping to hear something early next week. He's been practicing with his soccer ball in our unfinished basement and actually shows real promise! That boy's leg is like a cannon!!
Next up for Carson? He's having an EMG done on his arms on Monday. EMGs are not pleasant (they will place needles in his arms and give him small electrical shocks to test the reaction of his nerves) and I fully expect Carson to have a rough time. Please pray for our Little Man Monday around 11:00 a.m...and for his Mommy as she faces the wrath of a very angry four-year-old after that experience!!
