This Family Knows How to Party!
On Thursday of this week, Carson got invited to his first official friend birthday party! Yes, we've had family get-togethers for cousins' birthdays, but this was his first I'm-not-related-to-you-let's-go-somewhere-fun birthday party! Carson's friend Brendan turned five (Happy Birthday, Brendan!) and they went to a party place that had mini bowling and putt-putt golf...Carson had a blast! Last night was another party opportunity...for normal people. We, however, are NOT normal people. New Year's Eve has never been a big event for us and we typically stay home and go to bed long before the stroke of midnight. In fact, last year we dropped Meggie off at a friend's house...hey, teenagers ALWAYS have fun on New Year's Eve...and headed to Kevin's office to make copies of our dossier paperwork to get ready to mail it to China. We wanted to have dinner but everything we found was closed, so we stopped at the local UDF and got milkshakes to sip on while we babysat his office copier. (Told you we know how to party...)

I was a bit surprised how well Carson did at this party and how quickly he picked up both the bowling and putt-putt. In the putt-putt room, one of his balls missed the hole just barely. One of the girls at the party saw that he missed and came over, took his ball, and putted it successfully into the hole. Carson was FURIOUS! He got right in her face and started yelling at her (in Chinese -- a rare treat these days!) and she was dumbfounded! She kept calmly telling him, "But I was helping." I tried very hard not to laugh...the male ego is so funny!

Daddy, Carson and I ate leftovers for dinner, Carson got an early bath, then we had family night fit for a king! I popped popcorn (Carson was SO excited to see it...he apparently has had it before) and we let him pick a movie. His current favorites are Finding Nemo and The Incredibles so we expected one of those. When Daddy showed him Meggie's old VHS collection of Disney movies, he made an unexpected selection...see if you can guess...
...yes, folks, my studly little boy wanted to watch Sleeping Beauty! I was a bit shocked (and quite proud, actually) that Daddy didn't try to talk him out of it. So we settled on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn (which Carson was not very good at sharing), and watched Sleeping Beauty. A few pics:

When Malificent turned herself into a big, scary dragon,
Carson decided a "sa-nuggle" was a good idea!

So that is the entirety of our exciting night! It was very interesting to watch a typical "girlie" Disney movie from a boy's perspective! Instead of enjoying the dancing, the singing, and the "Make it blue! Make it pink!" fight over Princess Aurora's dress (Meggie's favorite parts back in the day), Carson was very into the horse, the sword, and the big, scary dragon. Every time Malificent was on the screen, we would point at her and yell, "BOOOOOOOOOOO!!" so she knew we didn't like how mean she was. It's not a rumor, folks, boys and girls are VERY different creatures!
Well, that's the end of 2007! It's been a crazy and wild ride, which included...
Going from a family of three (which included only a quiet teenager) to a family of four (now including a wild four year old) has made this quite a memorable year! In 2008, we know we can look forward to...
...readopting Carson and getting him a U.S. Birth Certificate.
...heading to Destin, Florida in June to watch Meggie dance at Nationals.
...me graduating with my Bachelor's degree in July.
...Meggie moving from the Freshman building into the High School in September.
...Carson starting pre-K in September.
Who knows what else is in store for us in 2008?? I, for one, am buckling my seatbelt for what's sure to be a wild ride!

Terribly exciting, I know...just TRY to keep up with us!
This morning, as I'm blogging, Daddy is dismantling our Christmas decorations (our New Year's Day tradition) and Carson is having a fit! He keeps chasing Daddy around yelling "Doe tush it!" (aka Don't touch it!) and can't understand why he has been forbidden to touch all these delicate breakables and Daddy is allowed to cram them into a huge box! Hysterical!!
Well, that's the end of 2007! It's been a crazy and wild ride, which included......me going back to college in January to work on finishing my Bachelor's degree.
...mailing our dossier to China in January and getting our log-in-date (LID) in February.
...unexpectedly finding Carson on CCAI's Waiting Child List in May.
...Meggie starting high school in September.
...our big trip to China in late October.
...Carson starting OT in November and PT in December.
...Carson starting preschool in December.
